The Thunder are going to have to improve their pick-and-roll defense

One of the few issues the Oklahoma City Thunder have had this year is their pick-and-roll defense. Last night they played the Clippers who run pick-and-roll plays more than any other team in the league.

It is safe to say that the Clippers picked the Thunder defense apart with the pick-and-roll. Over at my blog True Hoop Drew, I breakdown the Thunder defense from last night and where they need to improve.

We love seeing the Thunder go small because their offense can be really awesome playing Kevin Durant at the 4 but their defense does suffer somewhat when they do. And when the Thunder have to contend with an athletic roll player in the pick-and-roll like Blake Griffin the results can be drastic.

The good news when it comes to this matchup is that the Clippers only run pick-and-roll and the Thunder of course have plenty of time to get better at defending it and slowing down the Clippers’ attack.

Everything went right for Lob City last night and the Thunder were still in the game despite getting almost nothing from players not named Durant or Westbrook. This shows just how talented this team is and I think the Thunder still are the heavy favorite to come out of the West this year.
