Video: Kevin Durant’s game-tying basket vs. Portland

Here is the play where Kevin Durant took LaMarcus Aldridge off the dribble to the left and the officials called goaltending, allowing the Thunder to tie the game at 103 and send it into overtime.

On the initial look and the replay I thought it was a clean block by Aldridge. He meets the ball as it simultaneously hits the backboard and the kids call that a “pin.”

From the Thunder perspective, I’m very glad Durant decided to try and get to the rim here. He hadn’t been getting calls all game (he shot just one free throw somehow) and was settling a lot for jumpers.

I could have easily seen Durant thinking he would try a stepback jumper with Aldridge switched on him and I could have easily seen that kind of decision backfiring because Aldridge is just so long.

It was the right play by Durant and when you make the right play sometimes things go your way and you get a break. The Thunder did here and ended up with the W because of it.
