LeBron James scored nine of Team USA’s final 12 points as the United States passed the tough test Lithuania provided them in pool play, winning 99-94.
Team USA improved to 4-0 with the win and takes on Argentina today looking to win the pool with a perfect 5-0 record.
LeBron was quiet in the first three games of the Olympics for Team USA but stepped up when they needed him most in the fourth quarter vs. Lithuania. He finished with 20 points in the game but didn’t record an assist.
LeBron basically let know that he is still around as the best player in the world. He had an opportunity to pass to Kevin Durant on one of his late isolations and instead elected to keep the ball and play to score himself.
It was somewhat unlike LeBron to do this and the message was clear. He wasn’t going to let a team like Lithuania upset the U.S., especially looking across the court and who was matched up with him personally.
The games will continue to get tougher for Team USA as we near the medal round and it will start with a very strong Argentina squad this afternoon. LeBron will likely have to play more like how he did vs. Lithuania than in the first three games for the U.S. to keep winning.
