Dwight Howard missed the first Los Angeles Lakers preseason game last night while Steve Nash made his Lakers debut as the Lakers lost 110-83 to the Golden State Warriors.
Nash started and played 14 minutes, scoring five points to go with three assists on 2-of-7 shooting. Kobe Bryant scored 10 points in 18 minutes and Pau Gasol had nine points.
“I don’t have an update for you guys,” Howard told the Los Angeles Daily News. “I’m on track. I want to be 100 percent. They need me at 100 percent. I didn’t come here to play preseason. I came here to win the championship. That’s my goal. That’s the only thing I’m focused on. I’m going to play when I’m 100 percent.”
Howard had back surgery this summer and is still recovering from it. He was described as “unbelievable” in some of his practices earlier this week though.
Fans will have to wait a little longer before seeing the new-look Lakers in full force with Howard in the middle.
The Oklahoma City Thunder don’t play the Lakers until Nov. 21. Howard is hoping to be back for the start of the regular season at least so it is likely he and the Lakers will have their new Big 4 ready to play the Thunder by that date.
