The Oklahoma City Thunder lost their second preseason game last night 97-81 on the road to the Utah Jazz. The Thunder were without Russell Westbrook, James Harden, Kendrick Perkins and Thabo Sefolosha for the game.
Kevin Durant again had his minutes limited playing just 19 and scoring nine points on 3-of-7 shooting.
Perry Jones III came in for Durant in the first half and mostly played the three position last night. Jones led the Thunder with 14 points in 30 minutes and went 6-for-11 from the field and 2-for-4 from three.
Jones was again impressive with this performance. He makes it look so easy out there and he is so skilled for his size. The two threes were nice to see but head coach Scott Brooks said after the game he doesn’t want that to be Jones’ “bread and butter.”
Cole Aldrich had another nice showing as he notched another double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. He had three blocks again and was finishing around the rim without hesitation and good success.
Serge Ibaka played 18 minutes in his first preseason game and went 5-for-11 from the field with 12 points and seven rebounds.
Reggie Jackson started in place of Westbrook and had his moments last night. Jackson scored 10 points to go with four assists and three steals in 32 minutes but went 3-for-10 from the field and had seven turnovers. Jackson looks better than what we saw from him as a rookie but seven turnovers is much too high from a backup point guard on this team.
Eric Maynor played 27 minutes off the bench and was again looking for his shot scoring four points on 2-of-8 shooting. He added five assists and five rebounds but turned the ball over four times as well.
The Thunder once again got outrebounded last night 53-47. The Jazz had 15 offensive rebounds as well. This is something Brooks has recently said is a big concern for the Thunder and area that they need to improve upon. It’s just preseason and not everyone is playing their normal minutes but it still needs some work.
Hollis Thompson got his first action of the preseason playing 20 minutes last night. He scored six points on 3-for-6 shooting and was 0-for-2 from three.
Hasheem Thabeet got the backup center minutes and again fouled out in just 16 minutes. He had seven points, five boards and two blocks.
The Thunder are now 0-2 in the preseason and will play their next game at home on Tuesday, Oct. 16 vs. the Charlotte Bobcats at 8 p.m. EST.
