Dwight Howard returned to the floor last night for the first time since being traded from the Orlando Magic to the Los Angeles Lakers this summer. This was Howard’s first preseason game as he missed the others while still recovering from back surgery.
The Lakers lost 99-92 to the Sacramento Kings in Staples Center but Howard was productive in 33 minutes scoring 19 points to go with 12 boards and four blocks.
Howard’s first basket came on a lob from Pau Gasol which he threw down with authority early in the first quarter.
The Lakers had their full starting five for the game and they all played over 30 minutes. Kobe Bryant had 21 points, Steve Nash had six points and five assists and Gasol had 14 points, five assists and eight boards.
The Lakers certainly had their moments last night despite the loss where they looked scary good. These included Kobe delivering Howard a few really nice passes that led to buckets at the rim. Howard was also a force inside protecting the rim as he always is.
Chemistry did not appear to be an issue for the Lakers starters as they blended together nicely. It is early but as long as they’re healthy, it shouldn’t take them too long to learn to play together and start winning a lot of games.
The Lakers are just 0-6 so far in the preseason.
