Serge Ibaka and Thabo Seflosha missed last night’s Oklahoma City Thunder game on the road vs. the Portland Trail Blazers. The Thunder were fortunate enough to still win the game 87-83.
Ibaka was out because of a chest contusion and Sefolosha because of a sore neck. The Thunder had started the same five players in every game this season up until last night.
The Thunder are on the road for the second straight night again tonight vs. the Phoenix Suns. Ibaka and Sefolosha are both considered game-time decisions as of right now.
Ibaka said he was good after the game last night and that he’s just a little sore and will be fine. Ibaka had started every game since becoming a starter after the trade for Kendrick Perkins two seasons ago.
Sefolosha only has a sore neck which shouldn’t be too serious. But remember last season Sefolosha had a sore knee and was out for a few months.
The Thunder have a lot of road games coming up and at this point in the season they probably won’t be rushing anyone back from an injury.
From the sound of it right now, there’s a good chance that Ibaka and Sefolosha will be back tonight.
DeAndre Liggins and Nick Collison started in place of Sefolosha and Ibaka last night. Collison was his usual steady self with eight points and three rebounds in 22 minutes. Liggins had a great game with 11 points going 3-of-3 from deep and also nine rebounds in 40 minutes.
Liggins seems to be able to fill the Sefolosha void while Ibaka was missed a little bit more. Ibaka helps Russell Westbrook out more than anything else as one of his favorite targets to find for open jumpers. Westbrook struggled offensively last night making 5-of-21 shots.
