Oklahoma City Thunder guard Kevin Martin was warned for flopping earlier this season and now has been caught again resulting in a $5,000 fine from the league.
Martin, who makes a living getting to the free throw line on plays like this, took it too far trying to draw and sell the contact vs. the Denver Nuggets last Sunday night.
This is a common play for Martin who often does draw contact and get to the line from it. Andre Miller does a good job of completely avoiding any contact with Martin as he goes up for the jump shot making Martin’s act become a flop.
Martin was definitely one of the leading candidates coming into this season to feel the effects of the NBA’s new stance on flopping. So it’s no surprise that he is receiving his first fine about halfway through the season.
Reggie Evans, Gerald Wallace and J.J. Barea are the only other players to be fined for flopping this season. Twelve players have been warned so far.
The next fine for Martin if he is caught again will be $10,000.
Martin is one of the leading candidates for the Sixth Man of the Year Award this season averaging 15.0 points off the bench for OKC this season.
