In the first half of the Oklahoma City Thunder’s 122-105 win over the Los Angeles Lakers last night, Kevin Durant was called for a technical foul.
It as the 13th time this season that Durant has been given a technical foul, which ties him with Kobe Bryant for the league lead.
Durant didn’t think he deserved the call and had this to say after the game.
“Joey is a good ref and I respect him a lot,” Durant said. “But hopefully that gets rescinded. All I asked him was, verbatim, is ‘Can I talk to you?’ and he got me with one.”
The NBA reviews every technical foul that they hand out and it sounds like this one possibly could get rescinded if what Durant is saying is true, and the league finds evidence supporting this.
Once you get your 16th technical of the regular season, you are automatically suspended one game which Durant is getting closer to.
This has not been the case with Durant throughout his career who hardly ever got technical fouls before this season. Durant was ejected for the first time ever in a game this season as well.
Durant has spoken publicly about trying to tone it down. He’s said that he just thinks he’s getting too frustrated out there and needs to find a way to keep his cool.
Even Durant’s grandmother has gotten involved with this telling Durant that he needs to watch his language when in the game and on TV.
It feels unlikely that Durant will get to 16 technicals this season but if he isn’t careful, he could end up there and end up with a suspension.
