Kevin Durant is teaming up with Jay-Z and leaving his current agent Rob Pelinka.

News broke yesterday that Durant would be joining Roc Nation Sports, which is rapper Jay-Z’s agency.

According to Yahoo! Sports, Durant said that he wants Jay-Z to handle his branding and that he had a chance to be with his idol and couldn’t say no. Durant also said that he doesn’t want a traditional NBA agent anymore.

This will be the third different agency that Durant has had in his NBA career and the change now comes at an interesting time since Durant’s contract won’t end until after the 2015-16 season. This was clearly a move that goes behind simply handling his contract in the NBA and is probably an effort for Durant to grow his name and his brand.

The rumors have already started that by Durant joining forces with Jay-Z that he may be more prone to leave the small market that is Oklahoma City when his contract is up. That is a long time from now and a lot can happen between now and then, including many things outside of this that could push Durant out of OKC.

Now is definitely not the time to consider if Durant’s days in OKC are numbered. We will see if anything noticeably changes for KD with this move like for instance, if Beyonce will come perform at Chesapeake Energy Arena next year.

The agency Durant left, Landmark Sports Agency, also reps Kobe Bryant, James Harden and Derek Fisher.
