Croatian forward Dario Saric has officially withdrawn from the 2013 NBA Draft.
Saric was one of the highest projected international prospects and was even described as a European Magic Johnson. It’s interesting that Saric would withdraw considering how weak this draft is thought to be and the strength of next year’s.
Saric was drawing interest from a lot of teams, including the Oklahoma City Thunder. The Thunder have three picks in the upcoming draft and the thought is that they would go with an international flavor with one of them.
Saric was projected to be anywhere from a lottery pick to a late first round selection. With the 12th pick, the Thunder could have gone with Saric with the idea of stashing him overseas for a a year or two.
It is still pretty likely that the Thunder will draft an international player with one of their picks.
Rudy Gobert from France is one potential prospect they could go after but like Saric, he may be off the board in the lottery.
The Thunder may also go with Giannis Antetokounmpo or Dennis Schroeder.
If the Thunder do go with an international players, the likelihood that we will be seeing him in a Thunder uniform any time soon is pretty slim.
