NBA Free Agency Rumors: OKC Thunder interested in signing Derek Fisher?

The Oklahoma City Thunder are reportedly entertaining the idea of re-signing free agent Derek Fisher.

Fisher, 38, played with the Thunder during the stretch runs of each of the last two seasons. He was pretty horrible for the Thunder in the regular season this past season averaging just 4.1 points per game and shooting 33.3 percent from the field and 35.1 percent from three.

In the playoffs, however, Fisher really came through for OKC averaging 8.7 points per game and shooting 47.1 percent from three.

The issue with signing Fisher is that Scott Brooks absolutely loves him and will use Fisher as an excuse to not play younger guys like Jeremy Lamb and Perry Jones.

I can see it now, the Thunder with a rotation of their starters then Reggie Jackson, Nick Collison, Derek Fisher and Hasheem Thabeet. I could totally see Brooks playing Thabo Sefolosha and Kevin Durant way too many minutes along with Fisher instead of giving Lamb a shot.

Even if Fisher can come in and still somehow produce like he did in the playoffs last year, it wouldn’t be worth it to sacrifice another year of potential development for Lamb and Jones.

I am getting a feeling though that the most likely free agent for the Thunder to sign is Fisher. What OKC will offer Dorell Wright probably will be too little and Fisher isn’t getting any interest from other teams.
