Thunder Beat Magic 79-78: Notes And Takeaways

The Thunder advanced to 2-0 in the summer league today with a 79-78 win over the Orlando Magic. Grant Jerrett led all OKC scorers with 14 points. Jeremy Lamb hit the game winner for the Thunder.

Here are some notes and takeaways:

-Reggie Jackson just flat out didn’t play well today. He finished the game with four points, four assists, and seven turnovers in 17 minutes before taking a nasty collision with Daniel Orton which made him leave the game. I thought that Jackson would come, be a leader and just dominate the competition but he just didn’t. Jackson did have some good moments, but overall it wasn’t his day. No need to panic, though. We already know that Jackson can play, as he will be the 6th man for the Thunder next year and be a vital part of the team next year.

-Andre Roberson showed a lot today. He is a great rebounder and has a high motor. Roberson has a lot of work to do and is a project, but he definitely has a high ceiling.

-Other “no name” guys played well today. I really liked the play from Mike Snaer who brought a lot of energy, and actually scored seven points. Another guy who played well was Ron Anderson who played in Tulsa last year. Anderson plays really hard and finishes well around the rim.

-Grant Jerrett didn’t have the type of game he had yesterday, but still played decently well. Yesterday, he finished with 17 points and shot 4-5 from deep. Today, Jerrett had 14 points on 4-8 from deep. He was the leading scorer for OKC.

-Daniel Orton had yet another impressive game. He looks like he is in better shape and ran the floor really well today. Orton is hard to guard off the pick and roll, and loves to play around the rim. Yesterday, he finished with 15 points on 7-11 shooting and today finished with nine points on 4-5 shooting.

-Can I call him Kid Clutch Jr? Jeremy Lamb went 3-15 from the field, but hit the game winner to take a 79-78 lead with 6.3 seconds to play. Talk about confidence.

-For those asking about points, the Thunder gained 4 points for winning the fourth quarter and the game.

-Steven Adams and DeAndre Liggins didn’t play today. No injuries just didn’t play today.
