The biggest storyline heading into next season for the Oklahoma City Thunder, at least at the start, will be the health of Russell Westbrook.
Westbrook talked to the media recently and said this when asked about how he will come back:
“I’m going to come back and be better,” Westbrook said matter-of-factly Monday, with the same unshakable swagger he’s always shown.
It’s not surprising that Westbrook would say this or if this will be the case. The injury really wasn’t much of a serious one and we shouldn’t expect Westbrook to not improve.
I don’t think the injury will play much of a part in Westbrook’s development next season, but it still will be a challenge for Westbrook to continue his improvement.
Westbrook and Durant will have as much responsibility as ever to grow and carry the team next season. The Thunder are going to need other players to step up and that means Westbrook and Durant being playmakers instead of just scorers.
The scary thing about Westbrook, is if he gets any better, we’ll be talking about him as a top five or maybe even top three player in the league.
