One of the biggest things that came from media day for the Oklahoma City Thunder this weekend was the changing of a jersey number.
Thabo Sefolosha dawned a No. 25 jersey as opposed to the No. 2 he had been wearing for years. His reason was just that it was time for a change, and then he apologized to the 19 people who owned his No. 2 jersey.
More interesting was Sefolosha’s comments on replacing Kevin Martin:
Thabo was asked about replacing the production of Kevin Martin and he called it a “couple-guy thing,” which I thought was a really good way to put it.
That is a good way to put it and seems to be something people aren’t realizing. Most people seem to think that replacing Martin will fall entirely on Jeremy Lamb. It just simply isn’t true.
Now, it would be nice if Lamb could replace Martin’s production on his own. The thing about having multiple guys doing it together is that more variables are involved, and that can be a bad thing if you need all of those variables doing their job to replace Martin.
I think the Thunder are prepared to replace Martin with many guys. It will be Lamb, Sefolosha, Reggie Jackson and guys at other positions stepping up too.
