Steven Adams had his most impressive game of the preseason last night for the Oklahoma City Thunder in their 105-102 loss to the New Orleans Pelicans.
Adams finished with 10 points and 15 rebounds.
The first thing you notice from Adams is his size, athleticism and motor. He moves very well, like way better than Kendrick Perkins. He has a ton of energy and his movements around the court makes you believe he is a hard worker.
It takes a lot to box out Adams and he seems to have a good feel for the game too. He attempted many good passes in the game.
The most important thing perhaps is the touch he displayed around the rim. It really looked easy for Adams when he was finishing inside. Again, something that is not the case for Perkins or Hasheem Thabeet.
It’s just the preseason and Adams is still a raw rookie. But from what he has shown so far in the preseason, I think he is exceeding what a lot of us expected he would be this early on.
I really hope Adams gets a shot this year. This is not the same case with Perry Jones last year, who still looks like he has a long way to go before earning solid playing time. There are a lot of reasons why Adams should be playing soon. He may even be able to become a solid contributor for the Thunder this season, possibly even a better option than Perkins at starting center.
