The Oklahoma City Thunder played their sixth preseason game last night, the first in which they were without Kevin Durant, who missed the game to rest.
Jeremy Lamb started in Durant’s spot and played 40 minutes. Lamb scored 13 points on 4-of-11 shooting as his three-point shooting continues to struggle as he missed all three of his attempts from deep.
Reggie Jackson was the leading scorer going for 18 points in 32 minutes. He shot well except for a 1-for-6 mark from deep.
Teams will leave Jackson open from three until he proves he can hit that shot consistently. He has a long way to go before that.
Serge Ibaka was expected to be somewhat of the focal point of the offense with KD out. He only played 27 minutes and scored 11 on 5-of-10 shooting.
Ibaka has shown signs of improvement as a scorer on his own. He will need to continue to develop in that arena with Westbrook out early in the season.
Perry Jones and Steven Adams both scored in double-figures coming off the bench. Jones had 12 and Adams had 10 to go with eight rebounds, five of which were offensive.
Adams has now had two preseason games with five offensive rebounds. The biggest thing you notice about Adams is his size and how much of a load he is for opponents to deal with. He also has a nice touch around the rim and is capable of finishing.
Adams has to be the most exciting part of the preseason so far for the Thunder. Not only does it feel like he should be the backup center from the start of the season, but possible even starting instead of Perkins.
The Thunder will play another preseason game tonight in Wichita, Kan. The game will tip at 8:30 p.m. CST and be on ESPN.
