OKC Thunder waive Diante Garrett and Rodney McGruder; Ryan Gomes makes team

Two of the most recent signings by the Oklahoma City Thunder have been waived.

Diante Garrett and Rodney McGruder have officially been waived by the Thunder today.

Garrett and McGruder both had very little chance of making the final roster. Garrett possibly had a better chance than McGruder if the Thunder were interested in having a third point guard while Westbrook was injured. Durant’s playmaking has possibly revealed that is not necessary.

McGruder could have been a decent shooter, and been a guy to replace the position of Liggins. Nothing really stood out from McGruder in the preseason and I doubt he ever would have played this season.

The current roster sits at 14 meaning that Ryan Gomes has made the team. I could see Gomes being a good piece as a stretch four that gives the Thunder more versatility with some of their lineups. The Thunder will be light on outside shooting as well and Gomes could help out there.
