If you’re not familiar with how Bill Simmons feels about the OKC Thunder organization, this video pretty much will sum it up for you.
You never like hearing someone say things like this about your team, because it kind of hurts your feelings. If Simmons was closer to the situation, he would understand the moves OKC decided to make better and feel more optimistic about the team’s future.
But a lot of what he says is very true. If OKC had a billionaire owner, maybe they keep Harden, win a championship last year and look like they are going to be a dynasty for the next decade.
Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook will feel something from OKC not paying the luxury tax. Sure, they understand the decision, but they also know that if they played somewhere else, this wouldn’t be an issue and every year they could have an owner doing a lot more to surround them with talent.
At this point, there’s no need to overreact too much. The Thunder are in better shape than the picture Simmons paints them in. Their young players are a lot more promising and once Russ gets back, we will see them at full force, and they may very well look like one of the best teams in the league again.
