Kevin Durant and Victor Oladipo both grew up in the Washington, D.C. area. Oladipo, a rookie this season, has unsurprisingly always looked up to Durant as a player.
Last night in Oklahoma City the two played against each other for the first time. The Thunder escaped with a 101-98 victory as Durant led OKC with 28 points.
Oladipo had 15 points in 33 minutes in the loss, and had this to say afterward:
“For him to be able to talk to me and for him to give me advice was kind of crazy,” Oladipo said. “But at the same time, it definitely was humbling and definitely nice for him to do — a credit to him for doing that. He didn’t have to, but he did it anyway.”
Durant is a cool dude. We all know that and his fellow NBA players know that as well. I love hearing stuff like this about players interacting and Durant seems to be one that is always doing things like that.
Orlando is much in the same boat Oklahoma City was when the franchise first came here. They’re trying to build a championship team around Oladipo like how the Thunder built around Durant.
In Oladipo’s first action against OKC, you could see the potential. He’s an explosive athlete who is already smart enough to operate well in an NBA offense. Once he improves his jumper there’s no doubting he will be competing for All-Star spots year in, year out.
