In Marc Gasol’s return to the lineup, the Mephis Grizzlies outlasted Kevin Durant’s scoring onslaught and squeaked out a win over the Oklahoma City Thunder, defeating them 90-87.
Oklahoma City has now lost three of its last four games, and is still looking for a working solution to the problem that Russell Westbrook’s absence has caused.
For the Thunder, Durant had a stellar performance, hitting 15 of 28 shots for 37 points, while Reggie Jackson and Serge Ibaka chipped in with 17 and 11 more points, respectively. The Thunder did not rebound particularly well, with no one grabbing double-digit boards and Ibaka leading with nine.
Courtney Lee led the Grizzlies with a season-high 24 points, including the a pair of free throws at the end of the game to put it just out of reach of Oklahoma City. Zach Randolph had a double-double performance, scoring 23 points and grabbing 13 rebounds. In his return–after being out nearly eight weeks with a knee injury–Gasol played 24 minutes and had 12 points.
With the loss, OKC falls to 28-10 on the season. The Thunder face the Houston Rockets next on Thursday, Jan. 16 at 9:30 p.m. ET.
