NBA Trade Rumors: OKC Thunder offering 1st round pick for Iman Shumpert?

The Oklahoma City Thunder have reportedly “expressed interest” in acquiring Iman Shumpert from the New York Knicks.

There has now been a recent development in this possibility:

The Thunder can use the $2.3 million trade exception they acquired in the Eric Maynor deal last season to do this.

OKC has two first round picks in the 2014 draft: their own (probably 30th overall) and Dallas’ (top 20 protected).

The Knicks have been involved in a lot of rumors over the last few days involving Shumpert and trading him.

Shumpert is making $1.7 million this season so adding him to the roster will allow the Thunder to still remain under the luxury tax.

Also, Shumpert sprained his left knee last night. It was the same knee that he tore the ACL in back in 2012.

The real question is if a first round pick from OKC is enough for the Knicks to part ways with Shumpert.

If I’m OKC, I would of course want to add Shumpert to the roster for a first rounder. There’s not a lot of risk with that move and Shumpert is a great athlete that would fit in with what the Thunder already do. He’s a good three-point shooter and has another year left on his contract so he could be the starting two-guard next season if Thabo Sefolosha leaves.
