On a night where the Oklahoma City Thunder didn’t even take the court, they have guaranteed themselves a post-season appearance by securing a playoff spot.
While the Thunder had the night off and will no doubt be getting focused for their home games against the Sacramento Kings and the Utah Jazz, the results from other Western Conference games sealed the Thunder’s fate. The Los Angeles Clipper held on to defeat the Dallas Mavericks – in the process handing the Mavs their 30th loss of the season and ensuring that no matter what, we will see the Thunder in the playoffs.
The actual seedings for the playoffs are still very tight and could change right up until the final night of the regular season. The Portland Trailblazers have ended their skid as they welcomed LaMarcus Aldridge back into the lineup, but it is hard to see them making up the seven games between themselves and the Thunder in the race for the Northwest Division crown.
Oklahoma City become just the fourth team to be guaranteed action once the regular season concludes (the others being Indiana, Miami and the San Antonio Spurs) and it marks the fifth straight post-season appearance by the Thunder.
The Thunder remain three games out of the #1 seed, behind the San Antonio Spurs who they will face on April 3rd.
Some key games remain on the schedule for the Thunder as they not only take on the red-hot Spurs, but will also face challenging games against playoff contenders like the Los Angeles Clippers, Houston Rockets and Indiana Pacers. While the Thunder will be happy they are guaranteed another playoff berth, there is no doubt they will be wanting to finish the regular season with a bang, welcome back some key players from injury and get themselves into solid form on both ends of the floor.
Make sure you bookmark Thunderous Intentions as we roll with the Thunder to close out the regular season and welcome the playoffs – again.
