Oklahoma City Thunder projected to win the West

ESPN recently released their Summer Forecast, predicting where they think the teams will land when all is said and done. Good news Thunder fans – they have us ranked #1 out West with a win-loss record of 58-24.

The forecast has the Oklahoma City Thunder one game ahead of the San Antonio Spurs, another game ahead of the Los Angeles Clippers and then a few games back they have the Portland Trailblazers, Dallas Mavericks, Memphis Grizzlies, Golden State Warriors and the Houston Rockets snaring the last seed in the conference.

Predictions don’t count for much, but there are plenty of reasons to be positive about the Thunder’s title hopes. A healthy Russell Westbrook, a reigning MVP, a super sophomore in Steven Adams and dedicated outside shooting – the Thunder have only gotten better.

Plenty of people commenting on this forecast still have the Spurs ranked #1 though. While there is no doubt the Spurs will be one of the teams to beat again, the Thunder can be quietly confident that this is their year. Fans often acknowledge that the Spurs had an injury plagued season last year – well so did the Thunder. This time, they will be back better than ever.

After the Eastern Conference predictions being lead by the Cleveland Cavaliers with a 56-26 record, it also means the Thunder are forecast to have the leagues best record.

The Western Conference is seen by most as the tougher side of the draw. The ESPN forecast again has the Phoenix Suns on the fringe of playoff action, but missing out again – even with a winning record.

We will be keeping a close eye on the rest of the ESPN forecast predictions over the coming weeks. The Oklahoma City Thunder could be in the box seat to become West Champs, Kevin Durant has to be favorite to take home his second Most Valuable Player award, and we will see just who ESPN believe will win the NBA Championship.
