Kevin Durant working on a new offensive move?

There is little doubt that Kevin Durant is the best offensive player in the NBA. Not only did he lead the league in scoring last season with a 32ppg clip, but it secured him his fourth NBA scoring title in his short career. While he has wokred hard to develop his overall game, he is still working on ways to become an even more deadly offensive weapon.

Over the course of his career, he has worked on his shot, his release, his handles to allow him more freedom to get to the rim and to create space for his jumpshot and he added the one-legged step back that Dirk Nowitzki patented.

It appears as though KD is adding yet another move to his arsenal. What can really only be described as an “around the back, step back jumper”, Durant shows his creativity in creating space in this GIF (courtesy of @JDonsports)

After watching this move on loop, it appears completely legal and allows Durant to transition the ball behind his back – therefore protecting it from reaching defenders – in order to create his shot. After being criticized heavily for his “rip through” move, perhaps he is working on a replacement move should the calls not be given to him this season.

You have to wonder whether this will actually transfer into game action and whether or not he will be able to become comfortable enough with it for us in the regular season. However, it proves that Kevin Durant is constantly working to improve his game which is great new for the Oklahoma City Thunder. He has already won Rookie of the Year, 4 scoring titles and an MVP award – but you can bet he is working to ensure he scores a Larry O’Brien trophy too.
