With the departure of Kevin Durant from the Oklahoma City Thunder, KD’s Southern Cuisine has officially closed for rebranding. The TI staff decided to lend their hand with some ideas for the new restaurant.

Tony Heim: I’d like to hear from the residents of Oklahoma City first. What do you think the nature of the new restaurant should be titled?

Cole Hixon: The best idea I’ve heard so far is Brodies BBQ. I like this idea because if it were to happen it would be because Russell Westbrook is coming back and staying long term. If that happens he would be a hero to the entire state of Oklahoma. Plus who doesn’t like BBQ?!?!

Heather Koontz: I still like the idea of calling it Presti’s. Of course, you run the same risk if he ever left, but it’s catchy.

Jeremy Lambert: I’m not from OKC, but I know the restaurant was located in Bricktown. If they wanted to keep the KD name, why not name it KD’s Game Six in Bricktown? If they want to get rid of KD’s name completely, why not name it after the team and have menu items named after the players? That way the menu will be constantly updated with new and exciting items.

TH: I love the idea of keeping the restaurant Thunder-related. Maybe include a special item that leaves a bad taste in your mouth and call it the KD Special.

Some reports are saying it’s going to be the same style food, do you think that’s a good move?

HK: I think there’s a market for that style of food. There’s no reason to change it in my opinion. It drew people in as much as, if not more than, the name itself.

CH: Yes. I’ve only been once, but the menu looked good and the meal I ended up choosing was worth going back for. Who doesn’t like soul food?

TH: Here’s an idea: make the entire roster the board of directors!! Oklahoma City loves their team more than any individual player, so why not let the current players decide what a town-favorite shop serves? It could be a fun, original landmark for the city.

CH: Each new player gets to pick a dish to put on the menu and if the dish is popular you keep it even after they leave?

TH: With the roster now you could get some great international cuisine…

JL: A “two week player special” definitely sounds like a good business tactic to get people coming back and trying new things.

HK: TURKISH FOOD!! YES!!!!!

More from Thunderous Intentions

CH: After reading the WSJ article about how Enes Kanter brought Turkish/Halal food to the team I’m all for this!

TH: I think we’re a name away from a billion dollar idea.

CH: We could even go a step further and have the menu item relate to their skillset. So Anthony Morrow, the knockdown shooter=chicken fried steak because it’s good every time AND fills you up every time.

TH: Steven Adams and his 48 oz. steak? Russell Westbrook’s “World’s Spiciest Wings?”

HK: Some kind of kiwi pie if there is such a thing. Or maybe a signature kiwi drink. In honor, of course, of the big kiwi himself.

JL: Nick Collison would be the pre-meal bread.
