Welcome to the inaugural ‘Rich list’ column also known as “Russ plus four’ . Each week I’ll detail Russell Westbrook and top 4 NBA performances, with this first edition focused on All-Star picks.

New year, same me, but new weekly feature. Gather round ladies and gentlemen, children of all ages, as I, on behalf of Thunderous Intentions, am pleased to announce the inaugural edition of The Rich List, also known as Russ Plus Four, a new weekly feature in which I will select the five best players in the NBA for that week.

Since it’s already January, and around forty percent of the season is already in the books, to catch up for the first list, I will be breaking down my choices for the starting five for both Conferences in the All-Star game. Just a couple of notes before I get into it:

  • I’ve got a personal rule when it comes to the All-Star ballot: no “popular kids.” What I mean by that is nobody who is going to get in regardless of whether they actually deserve to or not.   suppose we can call this the Kobe Rule as he was selected to be an All-Star even when he was injured and didn’t play. So, no Lebron, KD, Steph, Chris Paul, Dwayne Wade, Melo, etc.

  •  Ties go to the player with the winning record. For example, hypothetically speaking if LeBron and Dwayne Wade were close enough statistically and both passed my eye test, then LeBron would get the vote as the Cavaliers are winning and the Bulls are not. There are exceptions to every rule, this one included, but I feel like winning teams don’t get awarded nearly enough in these things.

And, that’s it really. So, without further adieu…
