Stephen A. Smith’s latest revelation on First Take regarding Kevin Durant puts the final stake in the relationship between Durant and OKC Thunder fans.

My heart slightly tingled when Kendrick Perkins said he wouldn’t be surprised if Kevin Durant eventually returned to Oklahoma City. Not because one of my favorite players would be returning – he’ll never get that distinction again. Not even for the nostalgia that would rush back. I just want a championship in OKC, and a player of KD’s caliber can help with that.

Now I don’t think I ever want him back. And after you watch this you won’t either.

“See you soon.” I’m not one to put faith in everything Stephen A. Smith says, and I’m skeptical of this since it is only coming out a year later. But if this is in fact true, Kevin Durant can say good-bye to any sort of plans of returning to Oklahoma City.

I don’t want a player who quit on my team, no matter how talented they are. I don’t want a player who already knew where he was going to play five seconds after blowing a 3-1 lead in the Western Conference Finals. I’m not one to quote Drake, but the fake was exposed when Stephen A. said “see you soon.”

Cupcake, snake, soft. We’ve used all of them to describe Durant at least once. But they don’t really fit Durant. Sure he is all of those things for leaving, but it doesn’t describe his persona as a whole.

He’s terrified. That’s the word.

Durant was terrified of trying to win the Western Conference and having to play LeBron in the Finals every year. He was terrified of creating an Eastern Conference power to try and stop LeBron. Now he’s terrified of looking soft so he’s talking s*** to mascots and fans. It’s comical to watch at this point.

More from Thunderous Intentions

This new KD is not a fun person to root for. The kid is an incredible basketball player, but the reason why Oklahoma City loved him and praised him so much was because of his seemingly deep-rooted values. Those values are gone.

We want players willing to go to battle with Russell Westbrook. We want players who can match his intensity on the court. We want players who only care about the team on their chest.

Players can come and go as they please. That’s their right. But if they are wearing an Oklahoma City Thunder jersey, they play for the Oklahoma City Thunder. Last season Kevin Durant was playing for the Golden State Warriors.

Because of that, I will never trust him to play for my team again.
