With the most astonishing season by a player now in the books, OKC Thunder guard Russell Westbrook won the NBA 2016-17 Most Valuable Player award to no one’s surprise.

The OKC Thunder triple-double machine won his much deserved MVP. Just one more thing to add to his historic collection. Moving forward although he conquered such a great feat, Westbrook and the Thunder are still on the prowl for their first Championship trophy. To that end, let’s examine which free agents could help him attain this goal in Loud City?

With the 2016-17 season officially over, the NBA is sculpting new teams left and right. From Dwight Howard being traded to Charlotte, or Chris Paul opting into his contract just to be traded to the Rockets, NBA GMs  have been on fire to try to build championship contenders.

The OKC Thunder embarks on potentially one of the strangest off seasons ahead they have ever undertaken. Currently OKC have 3 contracts over $15 million each (none of which are All-Stars), four free agents including restricted free agent – Andre Roberson and unrestricted free agents– Taj Gibson, Nick Collison and Norris Cole.  In addition, Jerami Grant. was a potential free agent until OKC exercised their team option. Suffice to say, in order to attract any free agents the OKC Thunder have some work to do on the trading block. But as it sits now, the Thunder aren’t championship contenders.

In order to keep Russell Westbrook at bay, the Thunder organization needs to at least be close to a title. With an outrageous market in this years free agency, now is the time for the OKC Thunder to prosper. Here are five free agents that would be a superb addition beside Westbrook.
