There is one person that NBA players turn to when they want to work on their post-up game: Hakeem Olajuwon.

Whenever we mention a player needs to get better in the post or a player is working on his post game in the summer, Olajuwon’s name is usually linked.

Olajuwon has contacted Oklahoma City Thunder head coach Scott Brooks about working out with Serge Ibaka this offseason, according to Darnell Mayberry of The Oklahoman.

“I played with Hakeem for three years,” Brooks said. “He’s one of the best to ever play the game. Anytime you can get players that played at a high level that can share their insight, you have to take advantage of it.”

Ibaka will participate in the Summer Olympics in London from July 27-August 12 as a member of Spain’s national basketball team. Any time spent with Olajuwon will have to wait until after that.

Ibaka averaged 9.9 points per game two years ago and 9.1 points per game last season. He has really developed a nice spot-up 17-footer and has shown glimpses of the skills necessary to have a solid post game.

The Thunder simply don’t go to Ibaka in the post at all yet. Ibaka did just 4.8 percent of his scoring in post-ups last season. Ibaka shot 44.8 percent on field goals taken from the post last year.

Ibaka is somewhat of an untapped resource for the Thunder right now but at just 22 years old, the Thunder have time to develop him. Olajuwon will really help with that.

“One of the things I do realize is there’s only one Olajuwon,” Brooks told The Oklahoman. “There’s not going to be another one, not in my lifetime. So the expectations have to be realistic. He’s such a modest person that he will never tell anybody how great he was. But he was the best that I’ve ever seen with footwork and his ability to make plays, not only for himself but for others. I’ve never seen another player at any position able to do what he did.”

There really is only one Olajuwon but there are a few similarities between Ibaka and The Dream. Ibaka moves very well for his size almost like Olajuwon and his instincts and ability as a shot blocker are close too.

It wouldn’t be surprising at all if Ibaka can develop a very solid and efficient post game. Thunder fans are just wondering if Olajuwon can help Kevin Durant as well.
