Kevin Durant was named the Western Conference Player of the Week today for games played from 3/19-3/25. Joe Johnson was the Eastern Conference Player of the Week.

The Thunder went 3-1 this past week beating Minnesota, the Los Angeles Clippers and then capping off the week nicely with their win last night over the Miami Heat.

Durant averaged 29.5 points per game and 10.3 rebounds per game during the week. He had 40 points and 17 rebounds in the double-overtime win over the Timberwolves and 28 points, nine rebounds and eight assists last night against the Heat.

The Thunder are really seeming to hit their stride with these last three wins this past week with of course the win over Miami being the most impressive.

Oklahoma City currently sits first in the Western Conference with a 37-12 record, three games ahead of the second-place San Antonio Spurs.

For the second time this season, Thunder forward Kevin Durant has been named the Western Conference Player of the Week. Durant led the Thunder to a 3-1 week averaging 32.0 points and 8.0 rebounds per game while shooting .585 from the field, .917 from the free throw line and .588 from three.

This is the second time this season that Durant has won the award, joining teammate Russell Westbrook who has also won it twice this season.

Durant is of course coming off a career-high 51 points last night in the Thunder’s 124-118 overtime win over Denver which definitely helped him surge ahead of his competition for the award.

The Thunder will play New Orleans tonight and then Boston and the Lakers later on in the week before All-Star Weekend begins.

LeBron James was named Eastern Conference Player of the Week leading the Heat to a 4-0 week. The Heat and LeBron have played as well as anyone this year but it is safe to say that Durant has closed the gap as to who the best player in the NBA is.
