Steve Nash has been stuck in Phoenix for too long now. Finally, he will become a free agent this summer and have the chance to move on.

Nash is 38 years old but still has some good basketball left in him. Last season he averaged 12.5 points and 10.7 assists per game while shooting .532 percent from the field, .390 from three and .894 from the free throw line.

Any contender would love to add him to their roster but it’s not going to be that easy.

The Toronto Raptors have emerged as the front-runner to sign Nash this offseason reportedly offering him a 3-year, $36 million deal that few teams would be able to match.

Nash has expressed the desire to play in Canada and has also made it known that money is still a factor for him. This is Nash’s last chance to make this kind of money in his career. Why would he leave $36 on the table to chase a title in Miami for $4 million?

Nash would immediately make the Raptors one of the most exciting teams in the Eastern Conference and possibly a threat to win a round in the playoffs. We’ve seen the kind of impact Nash has on a team and the Raptors may have enough tools to surround Nash with.

Other possible suitors for Nash are the Mavericks, Nets and Knicks. Neither could offer Nash as much money as Toronto.

The Knicks are exploring the possibility of a sign-and-trade involving Landry Fields to Phoenix that could afford Nash a little more money in a deal but still not as much as Toronto is offering.

If Toronto’s offer of $36 million isn’t enough, they’ve also called in the help of hockey legend Wayne Gretzky to help woo Nash.

Toronto seems like the most likely landing spot for Nash by far right now. Nash would save that team for a year or two too. They wouldn’t be the same Raptors as last season who just added a 38 year old point guard. Nash can still play and play at a very high level for his position.
