Five reasons why Thunder fans should NOT start panicking
By Tony Heim
1. It’s been two games……..
Seriously y’all. It’s an 82 game season. Two games is 2.43% of an NBA season. Why would we put more emphasis into two games when OKC played three games of really good basketball beforehand?
When the Thunder lose they lose. Oklahoma City has eight instances of 2+ game losing streaks this season. They have six instances of a one-loss “streak.”
At this point we should be accustomed to these minor meltdowns. This is a young team who had a huge roster turnover over the offseason and now they are trying to integrate three new players into the rotation. That never happens smoothly, even with a veteran-laden team.
More from Thunderous Intentions
- Stealing one player from every Southwest Division team for the OKC Thunder
- Should the OKC Thunder chase after a disgruntled hometown hero?
- 3 OKC Thunder players who can step up in Aleksej Pokusevski’s absence
- Aleksej Pokusevski sidelined approximately 6 weeks with ankle injury
- Damian Lillard does not fit with the OKC Thunder
I’m the biggest pessimist on the TI staff – well except Jeremy Lambert – and even I’m not down on the team. This stuff happens. It’s going to happen again in the next 20 games; that’s just the reality with this team.
But we have to remember something. History says the Thunder shouldn’t be in the playoffs. Losing a superstar talent like Kevin Durant does that to teams. The fact we are even having a conversation surrounding them being “the sleeper in the West” is extraordinary. It’s a testament to Sam Presti, Billy Donovan and that guy named Russell Westbrook.
Don’t freak out Thunder Nation. This wasn’t supposed to be a year where we saw playoff success, but the opportunity is there. Relax, enjoy the Westbrook Revenge Tour and support the team even when they are playing poorly. They’re here for us and it’s important that we give them nothing but love (because we really need Taj Gibson to take a discount to stay this summer).
