By far, the best and most exciting Christmas day matchup would be against Houston. Both teams added superstars in Chris Paul and Paul George. Both teams will be competing for top four seeds in the West. After last year’s short but competitive playoff series, it is only fitting to see Houston and OKC face off again on Christmas.
What sets this matchup apart from the others is the disdain these two teams have for each other. James Harden, along with Rockets GM Daryl Morey and the rest of the organization are furious Russel Westbrook won MVP over Harden. On the other side, the Thunder want revenge for losing to Houston in five games last year.
Ideally, this would be the first game against each other for both squads. That way, the hate for each team would be at its peak. I honestly have no idea what the ceilings are for either of these teams. Having the first matchup of the season set on Christmas would be the perfect way to find out.
