Trade No. 3

Denis Schroder and Kent Bazemore come to New Orleans as automatic starters at the point guard and small forward spots. Schroder’s passing game is equivalent to a poor man’s Rajon Rondo but his shooting ability is far superior. Bazemore gives the Pels a legitimate three, something they have lacked since the team changed names. His perimeter shooting helps spread the floor, allowing All Star Anthony Davis to go to work on the block.

Atlanta walk out of this deal smiling. Three first round picks and a second round selection is an impressive haul even though they absorb roughly $63-million-dollars in guaranteed salary. While Melo’s deal comes off the books at the end of the season, E’twaun Moore and Solomon Hill‘s deals expire in 2019-20. Atlanta have a chance to do it all again in 2019 when they can leverage their deals as expiring contracts.

Oklahoma City receive small forward Darius Miller and big man Alexis Ajinca. Miller was unconscious last year, shooting a career high 41 percent from deep on 4.4 attempts. Even though his defense is suspect at times, Miller provides OKC with shooting they desperately need.

Ajinca is purely there to make the deal work. The oft injured frenchman is a sunk cost and is recovering from last year’s knee surgery.
