Regardless of how this season ends, it’s important Sam Presti acquires more talent and makes the most of the prime of Russell Westbrook and Paul George’s careers.
Father time will eventually catch up to both of them, and since the Thunder have pushed all in on them both, it feels like now or never.
Luckily, the offseason is where Presti shines. With a little help from Westbrook, Presti brought the franchise back to life by acquiring free agents, making trades and drafting well. This offseason will hopefully be no different, but with zero draft picks this upcoming year we might see Presti get creative.
Even if we sit this draft out, Terrance Ferguson has taken a big stride forward and Hamidou Diallo has been a pleasant surprise. Add those two to Deonte Burton and Donte Grantham playing well with the Oklahoma Blue, and the Thunder are in decent shape in terms of future assets. Still, Presti might elect to move some pieces around to be a part of the action this upcoming draft.
Whatever the case, it’s important to get better this offseason for the sake of Westbrook and George. Striping the roster down for a rebuild might be unavoidable, but it will at least have to wait a few years.
