OKC Thunder season review: Analyzing Russell Westbrook’s complicated season
By Noah Schulte
Decision Making:
Even when he looked like a changed player it wasn’t necessarily because he’d had some grand awakening and realized, “Hey, maybe I don’t need to take a contested pull-up three on the break.” It was probably more because Paul George was on such a roll that Russ had to defer. Perhaps it was no coincidence, then, that Westbrook reverted back to his normal self the moment George stopped playing like one of the three best players in the league.
That’s really the worst part of the whole Russ experience; no matter how poorly he’s playing or how many shots he’s missing, he fully believes he’s the best player in the world and refuses to take a step back.
This has always been the case with Russ, but what made it worse this year is that there’s not much reason to believe that the “Real Westbrook” is coming back any time soon.
