OKC Thunder trade No. 4) George Hill heads to the Sixers

In the past, we’ve discussed the idea of the OKC Thunder linking up with the Philadelphia 76ers on a potential George Hill deal and, recently, our sister-site The Sixer Sense hopped in on the idea and discussed what they would be willing to give up to acquire the veteran guard.

Here, we see B/R agreeing with this hypothetical pairing, and proposes the idea of the Sixers acquiring Hill for a future first-round pick, Mike Scott, and Vincent Poirier. The idea here is that Presti brings on that highly-coveted first-rounder along with two expiring deals to help clear up roster spots to position themselves to be active this coming free agency period.

"The Thunder have a fairly straightforward decision on their hands. Opening a roster spot is annoying, but they’re dredging up yet another first-rounder for a player they won’t keep in the short term while taking on only expiring contracts. That’s another W for general manager Sam Presti."

Frankly, this deal actually is once again a solid one that the franchise should strongly consider pursuing… if it were a legal move to make.

Though one may have forgotten, during the Thunder’s wheeling and dealing this past offseason, the team managed to acquire the French-born Poirier from the Boston Celtics in exchange for a future second-round pick.

Less than a month later, the center was then traded to Philadelphia alongside Danny Green and Terrance Ferguson in the move that landed Al Horford in Oklahoma City.

Due to the CBA’s own policies, once a team trades a player, it cannot reacquire them during that same season. If the team trades a player between seasons, it cannot reacquire that player until the end of the next season.

So, despite the reasoning being sound, this trade cannot be pursued, nor passed on – it simply cannot be proposed.

Verdict: Illegal trade and, thus, cannot be pursued
