Boston Celtics

2021 Free Agents:

  • Tacko Fall
  • Evan Fournier
  • Luke Kornet
  • Semi Ojeleye
  • Tremont Waters

2021 Draft Picks:

  • Guard Juhann Begarin (45th)

Having moved from behind the bench to the front office Brad Stevens will be under the microscope in his first offseason in this new role. Consequently, the very first move he made was with Sam Presti as he brought back Al Horford (plus Moses Brown) while sending the OKC Thunder point guard Kemba Walker, this year’s 16th pick, and their 2025 second-round draft pick.

Stevens’ second decision was to hire Ime Udoka as his replacement. Aside from the five free agents Stevens needs to address, he also has five players who are eligible for extension with Marcus Smart and Robert Williams taking precedent.

As far as the one Celtics free agent Presti could look at there isn’t anyone who perfectly fits the OKC Thunder timeline. With Stevens making a deal with the Mavericks to add Josh Richardson that might be a hint he expects Fournier to want more than Boston is willing to pay (with the Knicks rumored to be a team who’ll make the Frenchman an offer he can’t refuse). If the Thunder were ready to compete for a title Evan Fournier would be a top consideration but OKC is years off from that pursuit so he’s not the best Celtics option.

Luke Kornet is an intriguing option at center. He’s 25-years-old and began his career as a decent 3-point shooter averaging 36.3 percent on four attempts per game in his second season. Still, with the Thunder developing talent, it’s wiser to add younger prospects and have them grow within the system.

That has me landing on the 25-year old Tacko Fall. Hey, who wouldn’t be hyped for the newly named Paycom Center to feature Tacko-Taco promotions? Besides, Fall seems beloved by his teammates and no team can get enough of those players.
