Dion Waiters: Can’t Stop, The Mixtape

facebooktwitterreddit

On June 11, Dion Waiters posted on twitter, “mixtape coming soon lol.” The “lol” at the end might mean that this was a joke, but I’d like to take Waiters seriously because the thought of a DW3 mixtape gets me all kinds of excited.

So let’s assume that Waiters will actually release a mixtape sometime this summer. What would the tracklist look like? What would some standout lyrics be? Well, I have some ideas.

“Dion Waiters – Can’t Stop – The Mixtape”

Track One: Intro by Meek Mill

Concept: Waiters and Mill are known friends, so it only makes sense that Meek does the intro for the mixtape. Not only are they friends, but Meek name dropped Waiters on “So Sophisticated.” Basically Meek is here to set up the mixtape.

Track Two: Deadly D

Concept: Waiters is inconsistent defensively, but when he puts his mind to it, he can be a good defender. And if you ask him, he probably thinks he’s the best defender in the league. The other meaning comes from his game-winning shot against the Detroit Pistons, which is the lone game-winner in his career.

Lyric: “I welcome the challenge, D em up, you can’t miss em/I bury your crew like you playin’ for the Pistons”

Track Three: Three Back

Concept: Explaining his jersey number choice, having to wear #23 when he first came to Oklahoma City, and getting #3 back from Perry Jones heading into this season.

Lyric: “Dion in OKC, you know we back/got love for PJ3, but I needed that three back.”

Track Four: Haters

Concept: Pretty much every athlete has at least one hater. This is Waiters’ chance to respond to those haters.

Lyric: “Got so many haters round the world/just jealous cause Waiters travelin’ round the world.”

Track Five: Breaking The Curse

Concept: Some of you may have heard of Lil B and the curse he’s put on Kevin Durant. Well, now Dion has a chance to stick up for his teammate by making a diss track about Lil B.

Lyric: “Lil B talkin’ reckless/So you can add me to your checklist/I’m in good company with James and Kev/Base fraud, I’ll have you askin’ God to save your cred.”

Track Six: Can’t Stop

Concept: This track is just for Dion to spaz on. What that means is he’s free to rap about anything on his mind, whether it makes sense or not.

Lyric: “They doubt I drop the mixtape but I can’t stop/Droppin’ 50 in the Knicks place, just can’t stop.”

Track Seven: Cavalier

Concept: Waiters denies that there’s beef between himself and Kyrie Irving, but now he gets to set the record straight. I’m going to make this a diss track because that makes things much more fun.

Lyric: “Golden boy Kyrie trying to take the credit/One-on-one, try me, you and ‘Bron could get it.”

Track Eight: Thunder Up

Concept: After dissing his former team, Waiters shows love to his current team.

Lyric: “I’m playin’ with the best, KD and Wes, we trouncin the west/Me and Baka da’ beast, we run on the east/We thunder up, your squad can’t compete, you others suck, we are the elite.”

Track Nine: Philly Rep (Ft. Meek Mill, Cassidy, Black Thought, Freeway)

Concept: Bringing together some of the top rappers from Philadelphia (minus Will Smith) to just talk about growing up and being raised in the City of Brotherly Love.

Lyric: “South Philadelphia, born and raised/raining down jumpers is how I spent most of my days.”

Track Ten: Step Back

Concept: Waiters loves to use the step-back jumper against opponents. So of course he’d name a track after his go-to move.

Lyric: “Flyin’ from city to city, that jet black/right, left, forward, then you hit with the step back.”

Track Eleven: CHECK PLEASE! (Outro)

Concept: Part rap, part talking. “Check Please” is my nickname for Waiters and something I enjoy saying whenever he hits a shot. This serves as the outro as you usually ask the waiter for the check when you’re ready to leave,

Lyric: “Killing all these dudes, whose next? Geez/Big shot Waiters always yelling “CHECK, PLEASE!”
