NBA Trade Deadline is ticking toward a close with OKC Thunder GM Sam Presti looking to add help to the roster.
Rumors have been swirling on this trade deadline day of multiple players the OKC Thunder may be interested in. One player that catches my eye is Doug McDermott. With the OKC Thunder shooting next to last place in the NBA in three point percentage, adding McDermott could do wonders for a young, but potential driven squad.
Pros:
Some pros with adding McDermott would obviously be his great shooting percentage. Shooting 45 percent from the field, 38 from three and 88 from the line, McDermott would provide instant offense whether as a starter or off the bench.
Bringing in McDermott would also fill the small forward hole the Thunder have been suffering from since Kevin Durant’s departure. Andre Roberson is a great defender, but his offense really lacks on most nights. Having McDermott potentially starting or coming off the bench would surely alleviate the pressure to score from Roberson.
Cons:
More from Thunderous Intentions
- Stealing one player from every Southwest Division team for the OKC Thunder
- Should the OKC Thunder chase after a disgruntled hometown hero?
- 3 OKC Thunder players who can step up in Aleksej Pokusevski’s absence
- Aleksej Pokusevski sidelined approximately 6 weeks with ankle injury
- Damian Lillard does not fit with the OKC Thunder
With pros, there are always cons. Some cons of this trade would obviously be losing one of our guys. Whether that would be Andre Roberson or someone else like Cameron Payne, you always hate to see those guys go.
Transition is always another big key. If McDermott does not transition into the Thunder’s scheme, he could very well turn out to be another Kyle Singler, and we definitely do not need another player like that.
Overall:
If the Thunder do pull of the trade, I think McDermott would certainly be an upgrade over any small forward we have on the roster at the moment. With Taj Gibson being linked to the trade as well, the Thunder could very well could be adding two great players this afternoon. With the deadline just mere hours away, we will just have to see if Presti pulls the trigger or not.
Stick to Thunderous Intentions for any breaking news that may come up this afternoon.
