Welcome to Thunderous Intentions, a weekly sort of look at the OKC Thunder where the main topic ranges from polls to poles. This week the most work I’ve ever done despite the least amount of writing.

Welcome to OKC Thunder Song Selection Thursday.

Every reputable website runs some sort of tournament in March to play off of the NCAA Tournament. We here at Thunderous Intentions are no different. We spent many weeks coming up with a theme for out first annual Thunderous Intentions March Madness Tournament. Best moment of the season? Best player in Thunder history? Most significant injury in Thunder history? There were plenty of topics to choose from. But, after much deliberation, we finally settled on Best Thunder Song.

This tournament works much the same way the NCAA Tournament works. It’s filled with choices you’ve never heard of, choices that you’ll claim you’ve heard of, and choices that you know very well. Instead of playing 40-minutes of basketball to decide things, you just take 2-minutes out of your time to vote. There is no electoral college.

Seeds Revealed

The number one seed in the Thunder Song Tournament is none other than….Thunderstruck by AC/DC.

An obvious choice for number one given that they named a movie after it and it’s probably the most famous song featuring thunder in history. This one will be tough to beat.

Thunderstruck will be going up against the sixteen seeded Prince Thunder by Sahtyre.

May you haven’t heard of this song, but give it a listen. Could this be an upset in the making? Probably not.

1. Thunderstruck

16. Prince Thunder

In the two vs. fifteen match-up, Thunder Rolls by Garth Brooks battles Thunderhorse by Deathklok.

Thunder Rolls is a personal favorite of mine, and if you really listen to the lyrics, you’ll notice that Garth is actually singing about the relationship between Russell Westbrook and that guy who left. Seriously, listen. Thunderhorse is a super death metal song that gives me a headache.

2. Thunder Rolls

15. Thunderhorse

The third-seeded God of Thunder by Kiss takes on Gimme Some Lovin by Spencer Davis Group. Although the word Thunder does not appear in the title of Gimme Some Lovin, it is the track most associated with Days of Thunder. Not all of these connections have to be logical.

3. God of Thunder

14. Gimme Some Lovin

The four seed in the opening round is Thunderball Tom Jones, which was the theme to the James Bond movie by the same name. It will be taking on The Rain by Missy Elliott. While The Rain doesn’t mention thunder, it’s a great song and typically rain and thunder go hand in hand.

4. Thunderball

13. The Rain

In the upset slot, the five seed, Thunder in the Night by Elton John battles Thunder Buddies by John Bennett and Ted. Can a short song you sing during a thunderstorm knock off an upbeat tune by one of the most famous performers ever?

5. Thunder in the Night

12. Thunder Buddies

Thunder Road by Bruce Springsteen, the six seed, takes on eleven seeded Lightning Crash by Live. Again, thunder and lightning go together, and Lightning Crashes is known by anyone who listened to music during the 90’s.

6. Thunder Road

11. Lightning Crashes

Potential sleeper Russell Westbrook on a Farm by Lil Dicky is the seven seed, and it will take on  the ten seed, She’s Thunderstorm by Artic Monkey’s. How could we not include a song with the title Russell Westbrook on a Farm? Come on, now.

7. Russell Westbrook on a Farm

10. She’s Thunderstorms

And finally, in the eight vs. nine match-up, Sound of Thunder by Duran Duran slugs it out with Thunder by Boys Like Girls.

8. Sound of Thunder

9. Thunder

Voting

Voting is done through twitter. The tweets are embedded below. Please vote. Remember what happened the last time a bunch of people didn’t vote even though they said they were going to? Don’t let that happen again.

You can vote however you want. There are no criteria. You can go with the song that you think best represents the Oklahoma City Thunder or you can go with the song that gets stuck in your head the easiest. You can go with the song that makes you dance or you can go with the song that makes you want to throw things. Democracy, baby.
