Scenario #3

New York Knicks receive Reggie Jackson, Lance Stephenson, Kendrick Perkins, and Perry Jones

Charlotte Hornets receive Andrea Bargnani, Jeremy Lamb, Nick Collison, and Tim Hardaway Jr.

Oklahoma City Thunder receives Al Jefferson and Jose Calderon

The Knicks are rebuilding and reportedly looking to offload Bargnani and Calderon. This deal allows them to do that, take on Perkins expiring contract, acquire young talented played in Jackson and PJ3, and add some defense with Stephenson. Obviously the wild card here is Stephenson, but when he’s in his right mind, he’s a very talented all-around player who can cover up for the lack of defense that Carmelo Anthony and Jackson give them.

The Hornets are playing extremely well without Stephenson and Jefferson, so they may as well try to maximize their value. They’d get out of Stephenson’s terrible deal while getting back Bargnani’s expiring contract, add two talented wing players, and get a smart veteran. The Hornets are second to last in the league in three-point shooting, so getting Hardaway Jr. will certainly improve that area.

The Thunder get everything they need in this deal. Calderon is a very good back-up point guard who can actually run an offense while Jefferson is a talented scoring big man. Acy is a throw-in to make money work, but he’s proven that he can provide valuable minutes when called upon. Long term this might be the worst deal for OKC as Jefferson has $13.5 million player option while Calderon is under contract for two more seasons at over $7 million for each year.
