The Oklahoma City Thunder have been in a win-now mode in order to hold on to Kevin Durant. They made several unexpected trades throughout the season, adding Dion Waiters, Enes Kanter and Kyle Singler to a team already loaded with top-tier talent. While injuries ultimately derailed OKC’s hopes of making the playoffs, next season looks more promising than ever.
Durant and Serge Ibaka are expected be fully healthy, Russell Westbrook played at a near-MVP level and Kanter proved to be the quality scoring big man the Thunder have never had.
But Kanter is expected to become a restricted free agent and test the market. While Sam Presti and Oklahoma City can match any deal, there’s a chance – however slim – that Kanter could receive an offer that would make him too expensive to bring back. With Steven Adams potentially able to regain his starting spot at center and Ibaka at power forward, OKC’s front court is still in good shape.
Could Presti sign another quality player should Kanter leave via free agency? If so, let’s check out some options the Thunder could potentially look at.
