Wesley Matthews
Unrestricted / Shooting Guard / 6-5 / Team: Portland
Matthews was on track to becoming the most underrated player in the Western Conference this season before tearing his Achilles tendon in the second half of the season. The San Antonio native was averaging 15.9 ppg, 3.7 rpg, and 2.3 apg while shooting nearly 39% from the arc.
Matthews would be a perfect fit in the Thunder’s starting lineup, playing lockdown defense while standing beyond the three-point line and giving Kevin Durant and Westbrook a kick-out option. OKC landing Matthews is unlikely, but KD and Russ might be able to convince him to buy into the team’s culture for less money.
Two factors in OKC’s favor to consider: Matthews’ season-ending injury could scare off potential suitors and the possible departure of LaMarcus Aldridge from Portland looms in the distance.
