OKC Thunder: Biggest “What If?” Moments in Team History
By JM VanSant
2. Patrick Beverley Tears Russell Westbrook’s Meniscus
This 2012-2013 season was the first post-Harden era, but the Thunder had looked better than ever throughout the season with Westbrook coming into his own as an elite point guard, Durant scoring as lethally as ever, and Kevin Martin managing a solid bench unit with a happy Reggie Jackson. It looked like the Thunder had a serious chance to make it back to the Finals after losing to the Heat the year before.
But Patrick Beverley had other plans, namely spearing his head into Westbrook’s knee when he went to call a timeout, ending Russell’s season (although he somehow played the second half). It seemed likely OKC would’ve beaten a weak Grizzlies team and a less superior Spurs team in the Conference Finals en route to another championship series, but alas the basketball gods had other plans.
