Today’s OKC Thunder and Their Historic NBA Counterparts
By David Ramil
#11 – Current Thunder Player – Kyle Singler
David’s Historic Counterpart – Jud Buechler
Stats per 36 minutes:
I did it again, breaking the 1990 rule ever so slightly but I really like this comparison. Buechler was a lanky 6’6”guard out of a storied program (Arizona) that never quite fit into the NBA. Drafted early in the second round (by the Seattle Supersonics, no less), he’d spend a mediocre 15-year career on seven different teams but he’s best “known” for being a backup on
Michael Jordan’s championship winning Bulls teams.
Singler, out of Duke, knows the burden of unfair expectations. He’s always been a serviceable player and, like Buechler, has a well-earned reputation of being a hard-working sharpshooter. Players like this won’t win titles based on their talent but it’s always good to have them on the roster because they know the value of struggling to earn playing time and recognition.
Both throwbacks from an era long-gone, they’re a good match.
