Top 5 Shooting Guards in OKC Thunder History
By JM VanSant
Ray Allen
Here’s the second guy I had to steal from Seattle. If this was a list of the greatest shooting guards in SONICS history, Allen would be number one without a doubt, but because the SuperSonics and the Thunder have tried to distance themselves as much as possible, I feel the need to keep Ray-Ray below players who actually suited up for the new franchise.
More from Thunderous Intentions
- Stealing one player from every Southwest Division team for the OKC Thunder
- Should the OKC Thunder chase after a disgruntled hometown hero?
- 3 OKC Thunder players who can step up in Aleksej Pokusevski’s absence
- Aleksej Pokusevski sidelined approximately 6 weeks with ankle injury
- Damian Lillard does not fit with the OKC Thunder
But this isn’t to discount how unbelievable Ray Allen was when he was in Seattle. Most people are aware of Allen’s place among the league’s all-time great shooters (I still believe he’s number one), however most NBA fans don’t realize that Sugar Ray was also an incredible athlete, capable of pulling up for three in your face one moment and dunking all over you the next.
While playing for the Sonics, Allen never averaged less than 23.0 points per game and was voted onto the All-NBA Second Team in 2006. Always capable of dropping 50 on a team, Allen was incredible in Seattle and deserves more respect than he’s being given in these rankings, but alas he played for the SuperSonics, not the Thunder.
