Turnover Issues Remain
More from Thunderous Intentions
- Stealing one player from every Southwest Division team for the OKC Thunder
- Should the OKC Thunder chase after a disgruntled hometown hero?
- 3 OKC Thunder players who can step up in Aleksej Pokusevski’s absence
- Aleksej Pokusevski sidelined approximately 6 weeks with ankle injury
- Damian Lillard does not fit with the OKC Thunder
The Thunder have traditionally struggled to keep their turnovers down in their tenure in Oklahoma City, and this game was no different. They tallied 19 in all, and 11 in the first half. It almost cost them the game if not for a late comeback.
Whilst it must be said that some terrific Spurs defense was a major cause of most of these particularly from Kawhi Leonard, some careless passes led to easy transition baskets for the ruthless Spurs. In the third quarter it did seem that the game would get away from the Thunder, but they responded well with some impressive runs offensively.
There were also a few key defensive breakdowns throughout the game, mainly in the first three quarters. Under a new system all these things will take time, but you know that Donovan will be keen to iron these issues out through a somewhat soft early schedule.
