OKC Thunder: Ranking the depth at each position before training camp
By Tony Heim
5. Small Forward
The OKC Thunder’s list of true small forwards begin with Kyle Singler and end with Josh Huestis. Yikes.
Because of this, Billy Donovan is likely to rely on Andre Roberson, Anthony Morrow and even Ersan Ilyasova to play minutes at the position this season. Roberson will be the most effective at the position because his length and athleticism; Ilyasova can step in if Donovan wants to have a giant frontcourt.
According to the Thunder, Singler and Huestis have been in the gym all summer working to prove OKC Thunder fans wrong. Singler’s five-year contract raised eyebrows, and he has done nothing to prove it was worth it. Huestis is in his third season after playing his last two predominantly for the OKC Blue.
Huestis very well could take a leap. But even with a leap, this position remains the weakest on the roster. C’mon Sam, we believe in your powers.
